A WREXHAM man who was chased by police in a ‘moment of madness’ has avoided jail.

Ryan Bagnall, 23, of Corunna Court, appeared at Mold Crown Court on June 25 for dangerous driving.

The court heard that Bagnall drove through two red lights and drove the wrong way around a roundabout as he ‘panicked when he saw police’.

Dashcam footage showed the police chase in April this year.

The chase began at around 7.30pm and saw Bagnall drive around Plas Coch Retail Park and Berse Road.

The court heart how it was a ‘moment of madness in the Covid-19 lockdown’ and was ‘distorted thinking’.

Judge Niclas Parry said: “This was a police chase, you caused real danger. CCTV showed you drove at high speeds through two red lights and the wrong way around two roundabouts.

“Remarkably, you didn’t cause serious harm or injury.”

Judge Parry said Bagnall had a ‘disregard for the rules of the road’ and only a custodial sentence could be ‘justified’.

He added that Bagnall was ‘genuinely remorseful’ and the harm was ‘mercifully low’.

The court heard Bagnall, a self-employed car valeter, lives with his partner and two children and ‘work is starting to pick up now’.

Bagnall was given a ten-month custodial sentence suspended for two-years and ordered to complete 300-hours of unpaid work.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
