A TOWN council has called for the community nominate their local heroes.

It was resolved last year that Holywell Town Council’s Community Endeavour Awards presentations, normally held at Christmas council meetings, should be held at the Annual meeting in May.

Due to meetings having been postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the council could not organise the awards in time for the annual meeting, however, it has been decided that they will indeed go ahead - albeit in a new different format.

A spokesman for the town council said: “The town council are requesting, this year, it should be the local community that decides who should be nominated for a Community Endeavour Award.

“Do you know somebody who goes above and beyond for our community? Has somebody you know been a hero throughout the COVID crisis? Does someone you know deserve recognition for their fundraising perhaps or volunteering?”

The above were given by the council members as examples – and the spokesman said people could nominate their own hero for various individual reasons.

To be eligible for an award, the nominee must either live in one of the four wards of Holywell & Greenfield, or their efforts must be of relevant benefit to the wards of Holywell and Greenfield.

There will be six categories – one for each of the four wards of Holywell East, Holywell West, Holywell Central and Greenfield as well as an Under 18 category for both Greenfield and Holywell.

Nominations must reach the town council before midday on Friday, July 10, by emailing the candidates name, address if known and the reason for nomination to town.clerk@holywell.wales.

Winners will then be selected at the July full council meeting and awards later presented following appropriate social distancing guidelines.
