CONCERNS have been raised over large vehicles getting stuck under a Flintshire railway bridge.
North Wales Police confirmed the A541 Cefn-y-Bedd crossroads with the B5102 was closed this morning after a vehicle got stuck under the railway bridge.
It is to remain closed for several hours and motorists are being urged to avoid the area.
Local resident Colin Richards said himself and his wife were woken by a large bang at around 2.30am and the lorry had ‘turned over’.
He told the Leader: “It was a loud bang alright, it sounded like an earthquake.
“This is a regular occurrence now, it’s happened three or four times this week. Since the A55 shut, wagons have been coming this way instead of on the A494.
“Officers are still here now (10am), the lorry has been towed away but there’s about 40-tonnes of pharmaceuticals across the road.”
The incident also affected the train lines but Colin said these are now running again.
He added: “The bridge has been damaged but it’s not badly damaged.
“It’s getting a bit ridiculous now all these lorries coming this way.
“We get disturbed all the time. My house is next to the bridge and wagons are constantly hooting and trying to get under it. What a mess.
“The officers I spoke to said that out of the whole of North Wales, this bridge is the most hit.”
