A FURTHER 17 suspected coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in North Wales in the last day, figures show.

Public Health Wales figures reveal that the total number of North Wales deaths now stands at 117.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the region is now 1,196.

Locally, two more cases have been confirmed in Flintshire, taking the county's total to 221, while one further case has been confirmed in Wrexham - taking its total to 230.

Nationally, a further 73 deaths have been confirmed across Wales in the last day - 56 more than that were reported on Tuesday and the second highest daily increase since the start of the outbreak. 

However, Public Health Wales states that the number of fatalities reported includes 30 deaths which occurred between March 29 and April 24 and have been retrospectively reported to Public Health Wales.

Wales' death toll now stands at 886 out of 9,629 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
