A PLAYGROUP in Wrexham has received a grant of over £1,000 thanks to a national supermarket chain.

The Rhostyllen Playgroup and Toddlers, took to social media yesterday (April 28), to update the public of the progress of their Groundwork Fund which is part of the Tesco Community Grant, despite its uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They posted: "As you may all be aware of, Rhostyllen Playgroup were chosen to be part of the Groundwork fundraiser from January 2020 until end March 2020.

"Customers in Tesco collected blue tokens to put into one of three nominated charities for the three month period.

"Whoever collected the most tokens would receive £2000, second place £1000 and £500 for third place.

"We had an email in early March to say in light of Covid-19, Tesco has made the decision to remove the voting units from all of their stores and the money would be split between the three causes.

"This means that our grant award is now £1,166.

"Thank you so much to everyone who supported us - we look forward to purchasing some new mathematical and literature learning resources, as well as equipment to promote health eating at the playgroup."
