A PARENT from Wrexham has spoken of their pride towards their daughter for showing compassion towards others.

Nadine Garland, mother of nine-year-old, Freya Verschueren, praised her daughter's efforts for her act of kindness in deciding to give away her holiday savings to the children's ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, after being unable to go due to the current travelling restrictions in place because of the coronavirus outbreak.

She said: "Freya just wants to put smile on some children's faces - if possible.

"She decided to give her holiday savings away, which is a total of £150 as she longer needs it.

"Also being a former patient of the children's ward at the Maelor, she knows how hard it is and just wants to give something back.

"I'm so proud that she has thought of others and that she is willing to give the money away to poorly children who may not be able to see a family member due to the virus.

"She definitely put a smile on my face when she said she wanted to do this.

"Even if the money is used for something small like colouring books or paint for the children, it will make a difference as she know what’s it like to stay there and having the staff to give her things to do."

Youngster Freya is set to make the donation tomorrow (April 29).
