FURTHER concerns regarding fly-tipping incidents in Wrexham have been raised.

Over the weekend, a number of disgruntled residents took to social media to share images taken in Gwersyllt and Erlas Lane, which shows the impact that this issue is having on the area.

One frustrated Erlas Lane resident shared an image which consisted of a large quantity of rubbish, dumped in white bags that looked like 'builders rubbish'.

The original Facebook post proved popular, as it received over 60 comments, with other residents using it as an opportunity to share their concerns over these sorts of incidents becoming far more frequent within the area.

Last week, the Leader spoke to councillor David Bithell, lead member for place - environment and transport, who shared his thoughts on fly-tipping and questioned whether carrying these sorts of acts are worth the £1,000 fine if caught.

According to cllr Bithell, as well as contributing to lowering the appearance of the area where the items are dumped, council workers who collect them are having to take extra precautions.

Speaking on this matter, Darren Williams, chief environment and technical officer, said: "Fly-tipping is never acceptable and we take all incidents very seriously.

"At this moment in time it is also placing our staff in danger.

"It is important we all take responsibility for our waste and dispose of it sensibly.

"Our recycling centres are now closed but we are maintaining our kerbside waste and recycling service.

"We’re asking residents to behave responsibly and try and minimise the waste created – please don’t have any ‘clear outs’ at home, or do anything else that creates extra rubbish (e.g. certain DIY projects etc).

"We know it’s not easy, but please try to keep your waste to a minimum."

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council, added: "Keep items you would normally take to the tip (old furniture, timber, electrical goods etc) at home for now – unless they’re suitable for placing in your black bin.

"Please don’t be tempted to fly-tip and please don’t leave waste at the gate or on the side of the road, or anywhere else where it shouldn’t be left.

"This is an incredibly challenging time for everyone in the UK, and our daily lives are being affected in all kinds of ways.

"Anyone who spots fly-tipping can report it online at 'my account' on our website https://myaccount.wrexham.gov.uk/en.

"We’re working hard to keep critical services going and we all have a part to play in ensuring we act responsibly and safely."
