A FORMER Iceland employee has given a stark account on life on the frontline.

Shaun Oliver, 24, from Shotton, who up until Friday worked at Iceland in Shotton, said he has been "absolutely shocked" how staff are being treated by some customers.

He has also slammed people continually making non-essential purchases.

Mr Oliver said: "So I’ve had the privilege of working for Iceland during this desperate time for everyone.

"It’s absolutely shocked me during this crisis how general staff are being abused and shouted at by some horrible customers.

"Recently Iceland has started 6am deliveries which is meant for the elderly and vulnerable people, well I can guarantee 70 per cent of these orders are not essential in the slightest.

"Nine bottles of wine and one frozen item? That seems like you really need it.

"This means someone who actually needs a delivery can’t get it because people are taking liberties of the opportunity."

He says some people are repeatedly ordering throughout the week.

He added: "You've got staff working their pants off at 3am so they can help others - do the same.

"Please appreciate the key workers - half of them don't have to be there as they would make more money by not working.

"I hope people realise that times have changed and things are definitely not how it used to be. I hope this actually reaches people and makes them think, do I need to order? Can I justify getting a couple of them items when I need them?"
