A WREXHAM man is sleeping outside each night to raise vital funds for local services.

Stanley Scheurleer, from Coedpoeth, has raised £1,100 for the village chemists, two care homes, two doctors surgeries the dental practice and also housing charity Shelter Cymru.

He has been sleeping outside in a hammock for the last four nights to raise the money, and will continue doing so while the donations keep rolling in.

Explaining how it all came about, Stanley, 47, said: "The idea was born last Sunday afternoon whilst we sat outside on the drive with our neighbours (socially distant of course) and I was lounging in a hammock.

" I proposed that if £100 would be raised, I would sleep outside for the night and would donate the money to local services in Coedpoeth such as pharmacies , GPs, dentist and care homes.

The next thing I know a fundraising page was set up and I agreed that each time a certain amount was raised I would sleep and extra night outside.

"This went very quickly to £600 in two days and has this morning gone up to over £1100."

And Stanley, who moved to Coepoeth from the Netherlands 20 years ago, says the donations have even been coming in from outside Wales, and as far afield as Australia.

He said: "I have now agreed that as long as the money keeps going I will stay out until next week.

"I just want to thank Joanne Lancelot - my neighbour and friend - without whom none of this would have been possible."

Stanley, a senior project manager in IT, says he has been getting up to each morning to make the short journey from patio to house to work from home.

He added: "The first night was very cold, but the following nights where ok and in fact, rather spectacular with the clear skies and satellites.

"I think there is some rain forecast in the next few nights but I will continue to sleep out."
