A WREXHAM student nurse and her family went the extra mile to pay tribute to the hard work of NHS staff during the coronavirus crisis.

Ruby Ogden, 29, coloured the front wall of her Marchwiel home, where she lives with her mum Sian Henderson.

She explained: "Everyone's putting up rainbows to show solidarity with the NHS and I thought it would be a nice idea to show our support. "We know how hard they work and thought it might be nice for them and the children in the village to have something different to see when they are out on their daily exercise.

"I'd seen this done somewhere on Facebook and I showed my son Morgan. He thought it was really cool, so we ordered some chalks online."

Starting at the weekend (Saturday, April 11), Miss Ogden chalked the bricks on the front of the home in alternating colours with a little help from her mum, boyfriend Matthew - who is a paramedic - and seven-year-old Morgan.

About three days (roughly ten hours of which were spent chalking) later, the wall was complete with a huge standout "NHS" over the ground floor window.

"My mum wasn't best pleased to begin with," Miss Ogden said. "But once she saw how it was coming along she loved it and came to help."

Miss Ogden's mum Sian told the Leader: "I think it's fantastic.

"I wasn't too chuffed to start with because it looked a bit of a mess, but when Ruby did the NHS part I just thought 'wow'.

"It is wonderful and all of that hard work has paid off. "A lot of Ruby's friends work in the Maelor Hospital and I just thought; what a good idea this is to show our support."
