COMMUNITIES across Wrexham and Flintshire have been pulling together to support one another by forming local groups within their towns and villages.

From helping the vulnerable members of their community with shopping and chat, to helping parents find ways to entertain the kids whilst on lockdown, these groups have become lifelines to help local communities.

Below is a list that rounds up of just some of the local groups offering support across the two counties...

Flintshire:

HOLYWELL CORONAVIRUS SUPPORT:

A Holywell-based group established by a local mum Fran Wilkinson.

The group offers support with shopping and medicine pickups, as well as offering out supplies that people are struggling to find on the supermarket shelves. There are also tips for things to do to keep children entertained whilst on lockdown featured frequently.

DEESIDE ROUND TABLE:

Members of Deeside Round Table have currently set aside £500 per week for the next six months to buy emergency food packages for vulnerable people in the Deeside area.

NANNY BISCUIT’S FLINTSHIRE CORONAVIRUS HELP GROUP:

A Flintshire-wide group created by Deeside’s James Hunt, founder of the Nanny Biscuit community project.

Working with local volunteers, the group ensures nobody is left unsupported during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering support to the elderly, sick and vulnerable through help with getting food shopping and medicine or offering a friendly phone conversation.

TRELOGAN COMMUNITY:

A group set up in Trelogan, near Holywell, offering help for those in self isolation with picking up basic shopping supplies, lending an ear with a friendly phone call, dog walking and prescription pickups.

MOLD COMMUNITY SHOP:

Set up in the Daniel Owen Centre, Mold, the community café offers a selection of essentials for those who cannot find them on supermarket shelves or are unable to get to the shops including bread, milk, eggs, meats and various fruit and vegetables.

Items are able to be delivered, with priority given to people in self isolation.

Wrexham:

WREXHAM CORONAVIRUS SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE:

A Wrexham-wide group formed to signpost people in need of assistance and support as a result of coronavirus.

The group accommodates a wide variety of needs, from providing information, locating essentials in the supermarkets and businesses or volunteers making deliveries to light-hearted posts to lift moods.

AVOW (ASSOCIATION OF VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS IN WREXHAM):

AVOW is a community group looking to mobilise 100s of volunteers to support staff delivering front line service and community befriending in Wrexham.

People wanting to help are being urged to register on the special portal where their details will be held until potential opportunities arise in their area.

CHIRK CORONAVIRUS SUPPORT:

A community group established to provide reliable information and give assistance to anyone who needs it in the Chirk area.

LLANGOLLEN CORONAVIRUS HELP GROUP:

A group formed in Llangollen to support the most vulnerable in the community with errands, information distribution and community/emotional support.

People can signpost the group to those in the high-risk category including over 70s, people in isolation and anyone who is vulnerable, or contact the members on a person’s behalf.

The group is run entirely by volunteers and asks that people be patient when waiting for a reply.

MAELOR SOUTH COMMUNITY RESPONSE COVID-19:

Maelor South Community Council and the Rainbow Centre are working in partnership to support residents that are self-isolating and need help. From advice and support to shopping collections, get in touch with the group that covers the village. They are also run by volunteers and can always use extra help to make sure people are safe and well.

COMMUNITY CAFÉ RHOS:

The Community Café Rhos is preparing hot meals and delivering food parcels free to the elderly and low-income families in the Rhos area. They are also offering meditation and mindfulness sessions on Zoom to help combat isolation and stress.
