DEESIDE'S representatives joined millions across the UK to say a huge thank you to the key workers leading the fight against coronavirus.

Waves of applaud could be heard on streets across the country as people took to the doors and windows to clap for NHS staff and other essential workers.

Alyn and Deeside's representatives Jack Sargeant AM and Mark Tami MP took part in the national event at 8pm Thursday to show how grateful they are to the entire community in the constituency for 'what they are doing to beat the virus'.

Jack Sargeant AM said: "I have never been prouder to be from Alyn and Deeside. This community is rising to the challenge in an incredible way.

"It was an emotional moment applauding our NHS staff last week and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone in Alyn and Deeside for what they are doing.

"While my office is closed my staff and I are working from home. We are here to help anyone that needs it. Remember stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives."

The AM and MP are 'incredibly grateful' to all the NHS staff, pharmacy staff, carers, key retail staff, Flintshire Council staff and 'so many local people who are going above and beyond' at this challenging time.

The pair also thanked the residents staying at home and helping to spread the slow of the virus. They say they 'recognise that balancing child care and other caring responsibilities with work is not easy' and thank everyone for their cooperation.

Mark Tami MP added: “Massive thank you to all our NHS workers and those working in essential services. At times like this we must all pull together and look after the most vulnerable in our community”

They have also reiterated their call for non-essential employers to close in order to protect the community.

Both are in constant contact with local businesses to keep them updated on all the support available.
