MEMBERS of a Flintshire group have found an innovative way to stay connected despite being in isolation.

As the Coronavirus lockdown continues, more people are using modern technology to stay in touch with their loved ones.

This is no different for Flintshire’s ‘Brew-It’ group who are used to meeting face-to-face for different activities, as part of their coffee mornings.

Members now use the online platform Zoom to connect.

Mark John-Williams, founder of social enterprise Flintshire Do-It, said: “We try to keep our activities the same, just online.

“General chit chat and catch up about how people are coping, sharing news and looking out for each other.

“For example, one of the group noticed a neighbour hadn't been seen for a while, so another of the group went round to check. We also had a sing song and got other people connected to our group.

“Because it’s important to people and they would miss the contact and camaraderie otherwise. One of our volunteers suggested Zoom.

“It’s great because one of the guys talks to us on their using makaton sign language, so everyone is included.”

Members take part in sofa singing, virtual pub quizzes and aim to help many more to be ‘digitally included’ as each week new people join the group.
