A FLINTSHIRE car wash business has been ordered to pay a fine of more than £3,000 for breaching orders to stop noise and water spray nuisances.

Site owner, Mr Darren Davies, and car wash operator, Mr Arram Mahmud, both pleaded guilty to the breaches at Wrexham Magistrates Court.

The pair have been fined a total of £3,193, with the magistrates ordering Mr Davies to pay £925 and Mr Mahmud £2,790 – an amount which they stated reflected his total disregard for the law.

The jet washing of vehicles at the car wash – which could facilitate two cars at a time - caused water spray to rain over a neighbouring house, leaving the residents unable to use their outside patio and garden.

Meanwhile, the vacuum cleaning of cars during valets also caused a noise nuisance with the industrial cleaners being heard throughout the neighbouring premises.

Mr Davies and Mr Mahmud were both served with abatement notices on December 13 after officers warned them that they were causing a nuisance to the residential property next door.

However, after several warnings and further complaints, council officers witnessed the car wash operation causing the nuisances.

A warrant was then obtained to remove all noise making equipment from the premises, including two jet wash pumps and two industrial vacuum cleaners.

Andrew Farrow, Flintshire County Council’s Chief Officer for Planning, Environment and Economy, Andrew Farrow, said:

“Like all anti-social behaviour, noise nuisance can cause a great deal of distress. I would like to thank our pollution control officers for their great work to restore some peace to the life of the affected neighbour.”
