A coronavirus patient being treated at a North Wales hospital has sadly died, Public Health Wales has confirmed. 

The Chief Medical Officer has today confirmed the death of two Welsh residents who had tested positive for coronavirus.

They include a 98-year-old patient who was being treated at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

Both patients had underlying health conditions, Public Health Wales said.

Dr Chris Williams, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “The Chief Medical Officer has today confirmed the death of two Welsh residents who had tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Public Health Wales offer our sincere condolences to families and friends affected.

“Five people in Wales who tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) have now died.

“The Chief Medical Officer has confirmed that the patients were a 75 year old who died at Singleton Hospital, and a 98 year old who died at Ysbyty Gwynedd.  Both patients had underlying health conditions.

“No further details regarding the individuals will be released, and we ask those reporting on the situation to respect patient confidentiality.”
