TWO school friends from Wrexham took it upon themselves to raise funds for charity.

Nine year olds, Skye Rogers and Olivia Fiddler, who both attend Ysgol Heulfan in Gwersyllt, decided two weeks ago to set up their own car washing service, with all proceeds raised going towards Nightingale House Hospice and to a fellow pupil who is currently ill.

Proud mum of Skye, Sian Williams, said: "Two weeks ago both Olivia and Skye came out from school with a handmade leaflet and poster, which advertised car washes for £2.50.

"They asked to photocopy as many as possible, as they wanted to advertise their car wash and collect money for their friend in school who was unwell.

"Their target was £50 and after the leaflets were printed we headed to the shop to buy shampoo, sponges and air freshener.

"They worked extremely hard in all weather conditions throughout the weekend, and quickly earned a fair amount of money, with many more 'customers' still awaiting their service."

With help from Miss Williams, the two youngsters were washing cars after school and the following weekend achieved a fantastic result of £205.

They decided to donate £100 to Nightingale House Hospice and the remaining amount was given to their friend.

Ms Williams, added: "All we can say as their parents is that they made us feel extremely proud.

"It's such an amazing thing to do especially for their age and they definitely thought 'outside of the box' which deserves big recognition."
