IT is business for usual at Wrexham Football Club as the coronavirus continues to have an impact on the staging of sporting events around the world.

The disease has led to some of Europe's top-flight leagues playing games behind closed doors and a National League statement released last Friday said: "In light of the government's campaign, and as a precaution, pre-match 'fair play' handshakes between players and match officials will not take place in The National League until further notice.

"Similarly, customary handshakes between captains and match officials ahead of kick-off will not be required."

Keates, preparing for relegation-threatened Wrexham's clash against leaders Barrow at Holker Street on Saturday, says it is a case of carry on as you are until any other decisions are made by the relevant bodies.

"The handshake was changed last week but we just prepare the players and get them ready for a football match," said Keates.

"Until we are told anything different, we just go about our business and don't get sidetracked by anything else.

“Not just being involved in football, every single person has been reading up on it and taking on the right information - when it gets released from the right sources - and doing the best they can to make sure everyone stays as healthy as they can be.”
