A primary school's Book Swap Club did a roaring trade on World Book Day.
Pupils at Ysgol Y Waun, Gwernaffield, many dressed as their favourite literary characters, brought along pre-loved books which were handed into the Book Swap Club in exchange for a voucher.
The children could then use the voucher to take away a book donated by a different child.
The scheme is the brainchild of deputy head teacher Andrea Taylor, who says the scheme is all about encouraging pupils to read.
She said: "Re-using books means we are also reducing waste. The scheme is proving a big hit with children. It's better that a book is brought into school and swapped so it can be enjoyed again and again, rather than being left on a bookshelf at home or in a cupboard.
"Since we started the scheme we have seen hundreds of books swapped and it means we're encouraging children to read more and more books. I have a team of the school's Book Swap Club members who help me run the club.
"World Book Day is an excellent event. It means children can have fun while learning. Anything we can do to improve reading levels has to be a good thing."
