QUEENSFERRY children have been given the chance to 'connect with books' in their local area.

In recent weeks, Aura colleagues at Deeside Leisure Centre have been 'delighted' to welcome Year 4 pupils from Queensferry CP School, introducing the children to the leisure and library resources available to them, and promoting the importance of well-being.

Lee Breeze, Deeside Leisure Centre’s Development Officer, and Elizabeth Gilligan, an Aura Library Assistant based at Deeside Library within the Leisure Centre, have both played an 'integral role' in the school visits, making sure that each visit is fun, different and engaging for the children.

Lee said: “The recent school visits, in combination with previous visits from various year groups at Queensferry CP School, are part of an ongoing community relationship that we are building together.

"Aura’s priority is to benefit the community and we hope that by welcoming local children into the library and leisure centre, we can positively impact upon their well-being."

Mr Gordon Rodger-Burns – Acting Key Stage Two Lead and Year 4 teacher at Queensferry CP School added: "We have had a fantastic time at the Library. It has really opened the children's eyes to what the Leisure Centre has to offer.

"We have had fun story writing, learning about local history, comparing our toys and making clay objects. It has been fantastic for the children to connect with the books on offer in the Library and they have asked me every day when are we next going back to swap our books.

"Lee, Liz and everyone at the Leisure Centre have gone above and beyond to get the children engaged. They are providing a fantastic service to the local community and we are looking forward to continuing our visits."

During their next visit on World Book Day, children will be invited to dress up as characters from their favourite books and will get the chance to try out the leisure centre's ice rink.
