THE former Leader for Flintshire Council has been suspended from the Labour party pending investigation.

Aaron Shotton, who represents the Connah's Quay Central Ward, was previously found guilty of twice breaching its code of conduct and has been suspended from being a councillor for three months.

Suspended Cllr Shotton headed Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet until April last year, before resigning amid reports of an affair with his married PA Hayley Selvester – an employee of the local authority.

He was found to have breached the code of conduct by an Adjudication Panel for Wales tribunal at Llandudno Magistrate’s Court last month.

However, it has since come to light he has been suspended from the Labour Party pending investigation.

A spokesman for Welsh Labour, although cannot comment on individual cases, said: "It is understood that Aaron Shotton is suspended from the Labour Party pending investigation.

"We will not be commenting any further at this stage."

Aaron Shotton previously held the Chair position at the Connah's Quay Labour Party branch.

However, at the AGM meeting, Cllr Andy Dunbobbin took over the role after being voted in unanimously.

Cllr Ryan O'Gorman and Cllr Nathan Jones were also 'delighted' to have been elected as branch secretary and vice chair.
