A MAN has appeared in court following his arrest for being drunk and disorderly.

William Rhys Jones, 35, of Galaxy Grove in Brynteg, also admitted to having a small amount of cannabis in his pocket, which he said was purely for his own use.

Jemma Gordon, prosecuting at Mold Magistrates Court, said how police officers attended Y Wern in Wrexham on February 4, after an abandoned 999 call had been made reporting of a disturbance. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jones, who was in a highly intoxicated state and could barely stand up. When they made attempts to speak to him, Jones became abusive, telling them all to "f**k off". Officers said Jones smelt of cannabis and when they searched him, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of the Class B drug.

Ms Gordon told the court how Jones has previous drunk and disorderly offences and when interviewed by police the next day, told them that he had very little recollection of the incident.

Catherine Jagger, defending, said her client recognised that he has issues with alcohol and was seeking help from various sources, including his GP, CAIS and Alcoholics Anonymous. On the night in question, Jones had received some bad news regarding his finances and decided to go and drown his sorrows in Wrexham town centre. While out in the town, Jones met up with some people he knew and he was invited back to the house party. He had bought a bottle of whisky, but because nobody else wanted to drink any of it, had ended up drinking the whole bottle himself. She said the amount of cannabis he had in his possession had been a very small amount for his own personal use.

Magistrates fined Jones £40 for being drunk and disorderly and £80 for being in possession of cannabis. He must also pay court costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge.
