DAY became night for Llangollen newlyweds as they took part in an Artic challenge

Heather Pritchard-Jones and Matt Pritchard, both members of Run Free Fell Runners club based at Llangollen Sports Club, competed in the Polar Night Half Marathon, in Norway, after travelling from their wedding in Gretna on January 2.

The race is based in Tromso, a city in Norway above the Artic Circle.

The Polar Night run is a race with a difference. It takes place in the middle of the day, but because the sun hasn't risen above the horizon, it is still dark!

It is an exciting event taking place over crisp white snow.

The route is lit by torch-light and people who are really lucky might get a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

Matt, a carpenter who runs Wynnstay Sawmills & Joinery Workshop in Ruabon, and Heather, managing director of The Oaks holiday lets in Llangollen, finished in two hours and 12 minutes. Heather finished 544th, one place ahead of Matt.
