CONCERNS have been raised over the return of a ‘purge’ in fly-tipping in a Flintshire town.

Cllr Mike Evans, of Shotton town council, said once again fly-tippers have been active across the town, blighting areas with over 20 bags.

At their monthly meeting, he told members: “We had the bad purge after Christmas, fly-tipping around the areas we hadn’t had fly-tipping for a while.

“Butler Street gad over 20 bags just at the bottom end, we haven’t had any there for a long time. The top end where we have the camera and Strickland Street alley.

“They weren’t overspill, 22 bags is not overspill. I’m hoping the camera has caught someone.”

Wayne Jones, of Streetscene said enforcement officers are dealing with the incidents.

Concerns were also raised over whether carrier bags containing charity items were classed as fly-tipping.

Cllr Angela Phillips said: “The charity bags that people put clothes in and leave outside, are they exempt from fly-tipping?

“Some get left out weeks before they are taken away.”
