PUPILS at a Whitford primary school are celebrating several festive successes.

Children at Ysgol y Llan have plenty to celebrate at the school year comes to a close, their deputy head Nathan Williams has said.

Firstly, Year 1 pupil Lana Davies was awarded joint second prize in the Bishop's Christmas Card competition.

He said: “Staff and judges were very impressed with her eye-catching entry for the competition, which is organised by St Asaph Diocese on an annual basis. Her design showed the three kings taking their gifts to baby Jesus.”

Also celebrating success is Year 6 student Isla Peake, who was a winner in Liverpool Hope University's short Christmas Story competition.

Mr Williams said: “The competition focused on the theme 'kindness at Christmas'. Isla demonstrated a range of impressive writing techniques in her thought provoking story about lifting spirits within a homeless shelter.

“This was read by Father Christmas and shared on the university’s Twitter page. The story was really uplifting and helped share the true meaning of Christmas.”

The school also hosted four very successful Christmas Performances, two for each Key Stage.

The deputy head said: “KS2 pupils shared their 'Egyptian Nativity' story and Foundation Phase performed 'Everybody loves a baby' All performances contained fabulous acting and singing.”

In a final success story, 29 Key Stage 2 pupils attended a festive sing-song at The Jade Jones Sports Pavilion in Flint. The choir performed a number of traditional Christmas songs and the choir received many positive comments from members of the public who felt the performances started the Christmas period in style.

Mr Williams concluded: “The staff are all very proud of all four successes and all of the children at this magical time of year.”
