THE INQUEST into the death of a prisoner who died weeks after his birthday has been opened.
Matthew Lucas Sundeep Singh was 26 years old when he died after being found unresponsive in his cell at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham on Sunday, November 23 this year during routine evening checks by prison staff.
Singh, a former bingo hall cashier, was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital where he died later that night despite best efforts made to save him.
The inquest into Singh’s death of was officially opened by John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales east and central.
A cause of death was not able to be established and has been deferred to a full hearing which will take place in the spring of 2020.
