A FORMER soldier has raised hundreds of pounds in a bid to remember the 'forgotten' heroes of the war.

Bryn Davies, area organiser for the Halkyn and District Royal British Legion organised for a group of volunteers to take part in the poppy appeal for Remembrance Day this month.

As a result, they managed to raise £1,765 for the Royal British Legion.

However, Mr Davies, who has been raising funds for the past 25 years, said this was a decrease from previous years.

He told the Leader: "There's a lot of people now who would rather close the door. They have forgotten an awful lot but it should be remembered.

"I still think we have a lot to be thankful for. The people that took part, all I can say is a big thank you and thank you to everyone who donated."

Mr Davies previously went to Limoges in France to lay wreaths for the village that was massacred in 1944.

He is urging people to 'never forget' the fallen heroes of the war, as they suffered for the good of the country.

He added: "It's important that we carry on because it's not just about selling a poppy and donating money, it's about remembering and showing respect for those that suffered, those that fought for this country."
