A LOCAL artist has beaten off international competition to win the Judges Prize at Tŷ Pawb’s new exhibition – Print International.
Rhi Moxon topped a list of entrants which included 85 artists from 8 different countries with the awards announced at the opening event of the exhibition, held last Friday evening in front of a packed gallery at Wrexham’s multi-award winning arts, markets and community facility.
Prizes were awarded in six categories with the Judges Prize being the final award announced. The panel was made up of three judges: John Coe (Editor, Pressing Matters Magazine) Luci Melegari (co- Founder of Print International & Director of Visual Arts at Coleg Cambria Yale) and Jonathan Le Vay (Curator, Clwyd Theatr Cymru).
Rhi said: "I was absolutely thrilled, shocked and overwhelmed to be awarded the Judges’ Prize at the fantastic Print International exhibition opening on Friday evening at Tŷ Pawb and I’m just now processing the whole thing.
"I’m so grateful for this opportunity to exhibit these works in their homecoming show and as always, thankful to be part of such a thriving and supportive creative community here in North Wales; especially the fantastic printmaking hub that is The Regional Print Centre.
"I can’t wait to call in for a second, third and fourth visit to this show over the next couple of months and soak in all the brilliant printmaking that’s on display. If you’re in the area, I implore you to call in and take a look.
"The exhibition’s curator, Karen Whittingham, Pam Newall and the fantastic team at Tŷ Pawb have done an amazing job, and I’m so so grateful to be a small part of such a wonderful exhibition."
Exhibition Curator, Tŷ Pawb’s Karen Whittingham, said: "We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the response we’ve had for this exhibition since we sent out the open call for entries in June. We had over 400 images submitted from all over the world and we think this might actually be the biggest print exhibition in Wales!
"The opening night was a wonderful occasion a huge thanks to Adam Netting, our gallery technician, for all his work in putting the exhibition together, to all our exhibition and awards sponsors and of course to all the artists and to our judging panel."
