WREXHAM'S Assembly Member is helping raise awareness of the changes being made to the concessionary bus pass scheme around Wales.

In September, Transport for Wales announced the current green coloured bus passes will expire at the end of this year.

The passes enable passengers to travel free of charge on all registered bus services.

Passengers are being encouraged to reapply for their new Concessionary Travel Card, which will have exactly the same benefits but will replace the old passes after December 31.

To help highlight the upcoming changes, Lesley Griffiths AM held a pop-up advice surgery at King Street Coffee in the Wrexham Bus Station.

Ms Griffiths invited Transport for Wales officials to attend who were on hand to offer guidance and brought tablets along to help people sign up for their new bus pass immediately.

Afterwards, the Wrexham AM said: “While a significant amount of people across Wales have applied for the new Concessionary Travel Card, there are still a proportion of residents who have either struggled to reapply or remain unaware of the upcoming changes.”

“My advice session aimed to help rectify the issues. With the right information, the whole process only takes a few minutes and it was particularly pleasing to help a number of local residents reapply for their bus pass there and then.”

“A special thank you must go to Transport for Wales for their assistance and to King Street Coffee for hosting.”

There is still time for people to reapply for their new bus pass before the deadline and applicants will need the following information – the 19 digit number displayed on their existing pass, their national insurance number, the postcode from where their card is registered and their date of birth.

All the information people need to reapply for their bus pass can be found on the Transport for Wales website or by calling 0300 303 4240.
