A WREXHAM man banned from every public house in the town breached the terms of an order by standing in a pub doorway trying to watch the Rugby World Cup Final.

Mark Griffiths, 51, of Alexandra Road, was made subject of a two year criminal behaviour order on September 27, which banned him from all licensed premises in Wrexham and from using abusive behaviour or language in a public place.

Justin Espie told Mold Magistrates Court how Griffiths had been ejected from the Lloyds No.1 bar on the High Street on Saturday, November 2 and became abusive to staff when they were doing so. Mr Espie went on to explain that a small amount of cannabis was found in Griffiths’ possession.

Wendy Shurrock, defending, said Griffiths had not actually been inside the pub at the time but had been standing in the doorway watching the Rugby World Cup final. She went on to say that Griffiths did not believe his actions were likely to be considered to be a breach of the order and in fact, by only standing in the doorway, thought he was actually complying with it.

Ms Shurrock added how the incident was not a case of Griffiths being drunk and considered the way he had been man-handled off the premises to be “overly forceful” in the circumstances. She added how Griffiths had gone seven days without a drink.

Probation Officer Johnny Belbin said there was hope that he would co-operate with probation. Magistrates told Griffiths he must complete a 12 month community order, which includes 20 days of a rehabilitation requirement for his problem with alcohol and he was also fined £50 and ordered to pay court costs of £90.
