DEDICATED litter pickers braved the rain and mud over the weekend to remove litter and plastic waste in Mold.

All together 15 bags of rubbish, five rugby balls, two broken cones and a large business sign were collected during the efforts, which took place around Leadmills, Blackbrook and the storm drain near Lidl on Saturday.

Volunteers included Hannah Blythyn AM and a team from Celtic Financial Planning.

The event was organised by Mold Plastic Reduction together with North Wales Wildlife Trust, Mold Town Council and Flintshire County Council and supported the nationwide Surfers Against Sewage ‘Summit to Sea’ litter picking event across the country.

Jenny Thomas from Mold Plastic Reduction Steering Committee said: “Mold Plastic Reduction are working towards being accredited as a Plastic Free Community, a campaign which is run by Surfers Against Sewage.

“More than 600 communities across the UK are working on ‘plastic free’ status which is based on a number of businesses, schools, community groups and the local council getting involved to reduce the amount of single use plastics.

“Mold Plastic Reduction are currently working with local businesses to eliminate at least three single use plastic items and want to get local community groups involved in the fight against avoidable single use plastics.

“If you want to get involved or would like to find out more, please look at the Plastic Reduction Mold - Lleihau Plastig Yr Wyddgrug on Facebook, email plasticrollback@outlook.com or phone Mold Town Council on 01352 758532.”
