WREXHAM council would only consider removing car parking charges at its country parks if more people complained about them, say local councillors.

At a meeting of Llay Community Council on Wednesday, the issue of the £1 car parking charges - which were introduced by Wrexham council in April 2018 - was discussed with Cllr Rob Walsh saying it would take "a Kingdom type scenario" for the decision to ever be overturned.

Cllr Walsh said: "The problem we've got is, the council are happy with the revenue they're getting.

"What I hoped was that nobody would go there once they were introduced, but as long as they're getting their revenue, which the figures suggest they are, they're managing to fill the financial hole.

"What it would take to get this overturned, would be a lot of people complaining about it. I heard a horror story recently about a lady who put in her £1 but the ticket roll paper and ran out she she had no way of proving that she had paid, so she just left, having effectively thrown away her money.

"We almost need a Kingdom type scenario, where the council received that many complaints, they had to revoke its relationship with them. It's got to be shown to be so much of a farce that they will eventually cave in."

Cllr Sandra Apsley said the fact the Gwersyllt side of the park offered more in the way of facilities left those having to pay to park on the Llay side feeling short changed.

She said: "They have far more facilities on the other side of the park, so for them, they're getting far more.

"We're paying £1 for nothing."

Cllr Walsh added that the issue over the balance in facilities between both sides of the park had been a problem for at least twenty years, and went on to say how "frustrating" it was that people were still parking and paying the charge.
