A HOLYWELL man with three Kinder Egg’s full of drugs stashed up his bottom stole thousands of pounds worth of medication from a local pharmacy.

Dean Bannon Roberts, 35, of Whitford Street in Holywell, appeared before North East Wales Magistrates Court charged with burglary of Rowlands Pharmacy in Holywell as well as possession of class C controlled drugs stashed in Kinder Egg capsules.

Roberts was also charged with counts of theft from the Tesco Superstore in Holywell, where he was caught with 12 bottles of spirits to the value of almost £200 on April 26 alongside the offence of burglary.

Roberts was arrested by police officers after activating an intruder alarm at the Halkyn Road pharmacy on September 20 shortly after 2am.

The prosecution said officers attended the scene where they discovered a bag of tools and a large hole in the roof which led directly into the main pharmacy building.

Looking through the shop’s window shutters, officers noticed a lone male was behind the counters and was recognised by officers as Roberts.

The court heard the Roberts was seen moving from shelf to shelf and looking through different medication. The officers could not tell for certain if he was knocking medication to the floor or placing items in his pockets.

Officer eventually gained entry to the building when the keyholder arrived and Roberts was subsequently arrested.

A post-incident stock take by the pharmacy reveal that Roberts stole or damaged up to £2,500 worth of medication – including a controlled temperature unit that was left open during the robbery and resulted in prescription medication becoming spoilt and unsafe for consumption by the public.

However, he informed officers that he had taken a large quantity of controlled drugs and it was decided that he should be taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital where he was put into an induced coma by doctors.

The hospital received a phone call from Robert’s grandmother expressing concern that he had filled plastic Kinder Egg capsules with drugs and hidden them in his rectum.

Checks by hospital staff uncovered three eggs – one loaded with white tablets, another with a mixture of blue, yellow and white tablets, and a third with more white tablets and a quantity of tobacco.

It was suggested it could be some form of ‘prison kit’

After Roberts was awake and alert, officers rearrested him for interview.

He told officers that he took this course of action as he was no longer able to receive medication for his paranoid schizophrenia.

The court was told Roberts regretted what he has done and entered guilty pleas.

He was remanded into custody and will appear before a judge at Mold Crown Court on November 7.
