A CLOTHES bank causing ‘more trouble than it’s worth’ will be removed, councillors have decided.

At their monthly meeting, Shotton town councillors discussed the ‘mess’ that is left from the clothes bank on Charmley’s Lane.

Cllr Mike Evans said: “It’s more regular now. As everyone who goes into town knows, our rough sleepers are back.

“People are dumping bags rubbish there as well, it seems to be a regular hotspot there. I don’t know what we can do about it unless we install CCTV, but it is a mess.

“People are not wanting to go down there. They see all that, see the crew down the bottom they go back home. I said it in the last meeting but it’s getting worse.”

Councillors asked whether the recycling banks could be moved elsewhere in the town, but Wayne Jones – of Streetscene – said it would not make a difference as the clothes are being pulled out by hangers and they do the same everywhere.

Cllr Sean Bibby said: “I have caught someone red handed doing it.

“I think the question we’ve got to ask is, is this causing us more trouble than it’s worth? If council is happy, shall we get it removed?

“I think there are plenty of places people can donate clothes to I don’t think there’s a problem with facilities available. This seems to be causing never-ending problems. It’s having to be reported daily now.”

Cllr Tom Oldfield added: “I was in Connah’s Quay and there was a guy standing near it and opened it and a little boy came out and off they went bold as brass.”

Members voted in favour of having it moved.
