CHARITY champions have been praised after taking on a gruelling fundraising challenge.

On August 3, a team of 11 employees from Thames Valley Controls (TVC) completed the trek up to the summit of Mount Snowdon in aid of NEWCIS.

It was the first ascent for some team members so the nine mile long trek up and down the Llanberis Path was quite daunting.

Team member Lyn Williams, marketing communications manager for TVC, said: “It was a long day and the trek itself was a lot tougher than some of us had imagined it would be – there was a mix of fitness levels within the team so we helped each other and we all stuck together."

Training for this challenge commenced weeks before and involved trekking up Moel Famau, the highest hill in the Clwydian Range, in preparation for the big day.

TVC chose to raise funds for NEWCIS in recognition of the support they give to so many people living in Wales in so many different ways.

NEWCIS is the largest provider of carer services in Wales – delivering information, one to one support, advocacy, training and counselling to carers who provide unpaid support to family or friends living in North East Wales.

Claire Sullivan, chief executive officer at NEWCIS, said, “To raise this amount of funding for NEWCIS is a fantastic achievement, this money will help carers facing crisis situations and who really need emotional and financial support.

"My thanks go to all who took part from TVC, who dedicated their time and energy to climb up Mount Snowden on behalf of the many carers living in our local communities.”

Thanks to the efforts of those involved and the generosity of those who donated the TVC team raised £2,084 far exceeding all expectations.

Lyn Williams added: “We are all honoured to have been able to contribute to such a worthwhile charity.”

Richard Young, managing director of Thames Valley Controls, said: "I’m very pleased and proud that we have been able to help and support this very worthwhile charity.

"Our climbing colleagues did us proud - well done to them and to the rest of the company for raising this fantastic donation."
