A COUNCILLOR is urging residents to report anti-social behaviour following more 'disgusting' behaviour in his town.

Cllr Mike Evans, of Shotton Town Council, said his aim is to make his town 'safe again' but to do that he needs help.

He told the Leader he was alerted by concerned residents over '10ft flames' at the bottom of their gardens after a motorbike was set alight on Monday night.

He said: "If it wasn't for the fire brigade it would have ignited the fences, there was a very quick response from them.

"It's unbelievable, it's been torched for a reason whether it's been nicked or not, but it's putting people's lives at risk. It could have set fire to nearby properties.

"Residents are fearful, they don't want to go out in their back gardens.

"If this had happened later on in the evening when everyone was in bed, it could have been a lot worse.

"It's not the first time something like this has happened there unfortunately, because it's a very secluded part, it's a dark part of the alleyway."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to Wellington Street at 9.27pm on Monday night to reports of a fire.

The spokesman said one hose reel jet was used on the bike which suffered 100 per cent fire damage.

It is believed to have been deliberate ignition.

The Leader:

Cllr Evans said there had been more 'disgusting' behaviour in the town as a couch and drug paraphernalia had been left in the Harry Weale memorial garden.

He said: "The couch has now been moved, it has been left for a long time but it was originally on private land so we couldn't get it removed. It had been moved to the memorial garden.

"The size of it, it's taken at least two people to move. The needles they have found there and the stench of alcohol. I'm disgusted.

"People need to report things, as I keep telling them it can't just be me, we need people to report stuff. Whether people are afraid to I don't know but we need to bring our town back to where all residents feel safe, that is my aim.

"But to do that, we do need help, from residents and other organisations, we need people to be more proactive."

The Leader previously reported incidents in the memorial garden including drug paraphernalia and excrement.

The councillor added: "We fight against flytipping which is bad enough but the fact it's in a memorial garden is worse. Growing up I was no angel, but there's certain things you just didn't do or places you didn't go out of respect.

"We have a lot more strangers in the town, drug users who are not from the town, didn't get brought up here and it's giving us a bad name

"It seems to be the same thing over and over again but things like this shouldn't happen.

"This is our town, our community, don't let the few ruin it for the many."
