Principality Building Society has partnered with Techniquest Glyndŵr to launch a financial education programme spanning North Wales, Chester and Shrewsbury.

Over nine weeks, both the Society and educational charity will impact on hundreds of primary school students by teaching valuable life skills on how to save and manage money effectively.

The project, titled Principality savings school, will see the Society’s branch colleagues team up with Techniquest Glyndŵr’s education outreach team to deliver financial education lessons to schools in their local communities. Using interactive and engaging activities, the students will be taught key skills such as: identifying money, costing and learning how to save.

There are currently 11 schools benefitting from the programme and over 400 students aged 5-7 years. The partnership builds on the principles and practices within the new curriculum in Wales as well as responding to research commissioned by the Money Advice Service that has identified that children start to form adult money habits between the ages of three and seven.

Katie Williams, Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement Officer, Techniquest Glyndŵr said: "We’re delighted to be working with Principality Building Society to bring a really important scheme to 400 children across the region.

"Our mission is to inspire and engage young children and adults in STEM subjects, so we were delighted to be able to deliver financial education workshops with Wales’ largest building society."

David Critcher, Acting Head of Retail, Principality Building Society said: "We’re proud to be supporting Techniquest Glyndŵr in delivering a fantastic financial education programme across North Wales and the borders. A key aspect in enabling children and young adults to prosper is to ensure they are financially capable.

"We are committed to supporting our hard working schools in being able to do this. We were impressed by Techniquest Glyndŵr’s workshops, which provide a realistic experience of the subject and were keen to join forces to deliver this programme."
