A DOG rescue centre is urging people to rescue rather than buy their furry companions.

Almost Home Dog Rescue, based in Nercwys, is set to hold an open day this weekend to give people a chance to meet the pets up for adoption, who are needing a loving home.

Lauren Sutton said: "We are open day this Saturday for 'sightie' day at HQ where there will a chance to meet Totty, Tami, Macca and Jen.

"Feel free to pop up between 11am and 3pm. You can come and walk them, cuddle them and ask the team any questions you may have."

Owners of the rescue, which relies primarily on fundraising and donations, have previously told the Leader that many dogs are ending up abandoned due to lack of education.

Many people do not realise the responsibilities a dog and so often, they are left abandoned on the streets.

Staff also said that people tend to 'pick and choose' what pet they want, often leaving the likes of Greyhounds due to their appearances.

Anyone wishing to attend the open day can do so from 11am at the centre.
