MEMBERS of the public are being encouraged to make use of a pop-up sale at a Shotton community hub.

The event, to be held at the VC Hub in Rowley's Drive, will take place from 11am on Tuesday (October 1).

VC Hub Project manager Tony Penny said: "We have the Neo Community coming down from the Wirral - they are a non profit organisation that believes no food should go to landfill. "They get excess stock from places like Tesco, Costco. Every first and third Tuesday of the month, they do a pop up shop here.

"They have a cooler van they bring down - you never know what they're going to have. They could have washing powder, milk, pork, pasta, fruit, vegetables. "And it's not just stuff that's going out of date. If something is rebranded - for example if Tesco change the font on a pasta and they want to get rid of the old font - Neo Community takes it on.

"Pay what you feel is how they run it - that could be cash, time or items. So if you want to give three pound, volunteer for a few hours of if you have a table and chairs you don't want.

"There's no criteria to use it, unlike the foodbanks and lots of other charitable places.

"You don't have to be homeless, unemployed, or on benefits. You just have to be here.

"They will be here for a good three to four hours.

"Because of the philosophy that there's no criteria, there are a lot of families out there and single people who are working but are below the poverty line.

"It's a good opportunity for people to get that little bit of help they need."
