A DOG was left seriously injured following a savage attack from another dog in Wrexham.

The Yorkshire Terrier, named Suzie, was taken to a special vets in Runcorn for an emergency operation after her jaw was broken in two places.

Suzie, who is ten years of age, was out walking with her owner Susan Jones in Wrexham town centre on the afternoon of September 19.

Daughter Laura Jones said: "Mum was out walking the dog at Bank Street with Suzie on the lead and she stopped to chat to the neighbour when a pitbull type dog ran at her (Suzie).

"It made a mess of her, if it hadn't have been for my mum's neighbour, she wouldn't be alive.

"Thankfully she's home now after her operation but she can't eat or drink and has had to have a stint to keep her face in place.

"Mum is really shaken up, she's devastated. Suzie may be home but she has a long way to go."

The cost of the operation and after care is expected to run into many thousands and the family has asked for help to cover the costs of veterinary fees.

Laura added: "The fundraising page is to help with the cost of her operation because unfortunately she isn't insured.

"As a family we have been able to pull together to pay for Suzie's operation but the reason we set it up was because a lot of people who witnessed it were asking to help and the vet bills are ongoing so we kept it running.

"She will never be able to go out again. This dog goes everywhere with my mum but I don't think my mum will be able to face taking her out again.

"She's talking about getting a pram just so Suzie feels safe.

The Leader:

Suzie

"Suzie is very distressed by the whole thing. She's become a shadow of her former self."

Laura is urging pet owners to keep their dogs on leads at all times.

She told the Leader: "Dogs that can't be controlled should be muzzled but all dogs should be on a lead.

"You are responsible for your dog and so when you're out they should be on a lead.

"It's devastating. Suzie is part of our family, she means the world to my mum. It's horrible to think she had been hurt in this way.

"We have every right to walk the dog in the town centre.

"Pitbulls do tend to get a bad name but they are strong dogs. They can do a lot of damage, but so can any dog if not brought up right."
