Footage has been released of the moment former Wrexham manager Dean Saunders was pulled over by police having veered across the road.

The clip was released by the Crown Prosecution Service after the 55-year-old was sentenced to 10 weeks in jail for failing to provide a breath sample.

Saunders, of The Paddocks, Whitegate, near Northwich, was stopped on suspicion of drink-driving by police on the A51 in Boughton.

The footage shows Saunders, who managed Wrexham from 2008 to 2011, being ordered to get out of his Audi A8 by an officer who tells him his driving was "atrocious".

Asked by the officer if he had been drinking alcohol, Saunders said: "I've had one pint".

The former Wales striker is then escorted to the back seat of a patrol car before being taken to a police station, with the officer saying: "You can't even stand up".

Further bodycam footage later shows officers repeatedly explaining to Saunders that he will be charged with failing to provide a specimen if he refuses to give a breath test.

Saunders was freed from jail on Thursday, one day into a 10-week sentence.

He looked crestfallen when he realised he was going to prison on Wednesday, August 28 after admitting at Chester Magistrates Court to failing to comply with a roadside breath test and failing to provide a breath specimen.

On Thursday, his lawyers launched a bail application, held in private without access to press or public.

The Crown Prosecution Service have confirmed that Saunders' appeal against sentence will be heard at Chester Crown Court on October 4.

The father of three had been branded "arrogant" by District Judge Nicholas Sanders, passing sentence on Wednesday, who told Saunders he had shown no remorse and thought he was "above the law".

A football club's gentleman's evening with Saunders will still go ahead after his release from jail.

A spokesman for Llanfyllin Town FC has said the club has received confirmation its event on September 14 will go ahead as planned.
