PENYFFORDD Junior Football Club is celebrating a victory without even stepping onto the pitch after receiving a donation for new kit from Redrow.

The award-winning builder has kicked things off with £560 from the community fund connected to its Millstone View development in neighbouring Penymynydd, which is sharing £10,000 between 14 local groups and organisations.

Simon Crank, coach for Penyffordd JFC U12s, said the donation will pay for rain jackets bearing Redrow’s logo for the 16 players, and allow them to have co-ordinated wet weather wear on match days.

He said: “It’s quite a small club with only two age groups now playing and we rely heavily on donations to help fund the kit which we have to replace every two years. Annual fees go towards it but don’t cover it, and we don’t want to ask parents to pay because this could be prohibitive - we want to make sure that every young person who wants to be involved in the club can be.

“Kitting out the team costs typically between £1200 and £1400 and that’s a lot of money to find. It’s important that players have the right kit and without the donation from Redrow we simply wouldn’t have bought these jackets. We wouldn’t have been able to afford them.”

Redrow is a keen supporter of grass roots sport and the part it plays in bringing a community together.

Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “It’s really important that sports teams like Penyffordd JFC are encouraged so young people in an area can be involved and feel a part of something. Sports help kids to get outdoors and stay fit, active and healthy so they are absolutely vital. We’re all about creating thriving communities and encouraging health and well-being and this ticks both boxes.”
