A MUM and daughter had a lucky escape after a tree crashed down on their car – minutes after they got out of it.

Deborah Edwards, of Pwll Glas, had parked her car in the road on Friday afternoon before she and her daughter Medi went into their home.

Just over 10 minutes later, they heard a loud bang.

Mrs Edwards said she thought the noise had been caused by a telegraph cable breaking and falling, but when she came out she was horrified to see her car beneath the enormous fallen tree.

“I feel sick at the moment,” she said.

“I’m quite worries about the other trees now because they are all so old and they’re obviously in need of some attention.

“I don’t know who is responsible for them, but something will have to be done because they’re hanging over the houses.”

The Leader:

Describing the damage to her car, she said: “The roof has been bashed in and the windscreen is gone, but I am feeling very lucky that we were not in it and no one is hurt.”

According to Mrs Edwards, 56, the tree had fallen from within the garden of a neighbouring onto the road.

Council officers have closed the road while they deal with the damage – which includes a quantity of Pwll Glas’ overhead cabling.

Streetscene officer Mark Edwards told the Leader at the scene: “A tree has come from a resident’s property across the carriageway, causing damage to cables and a vehicle.

“The road has been closed and will remain closed until the local authority is satisfied that it is safe to be reopened.”
