Agencies joined forces to tackle anti-social behaviour incidents that have occurred in and around the Gwersyllt Resource Centre.

Officers from Wrexham Council's Youth Justice Service took on board these reported incidents and decided to arrange meetings between key organisations, such as the police, the community, local councillors, school, housing, parents and the young people within the area.

Earlier this year, the Leader reported on the on-going issues the centre faced in the form of anti-social behaviour, which was in relation to a number of younger members within the area who continued to throw dog faeces at their walls, which resulted in a major booking pulling out of holding their classes there.

The meetings saw the youth workers arrange a series of meetings to repair the harm done by the behaviour, restore relationships and come up with resolutions to tackle these sorts of incidents.

During the meetings, the youngsters were candidly questioned as to why they were undertaking these types of incidents and due to the agencies taking their responses seriously, the situation has now improved dramatically.

By listening to the young people within the area, the Community Council in Gwersyllt took on board what they would like to see take place, which resulted in the creation of an art project for them as a token of their restored faith in the young people of the village.

The meetings were deemed a huge success in preventing further incidents of anti-social behaviour within the area, as a number of sources that took part gave their views on the outcome these gatherings.

One young person, said: "I understand more about how my behaviour affects other people."

A member of staff from the local Estate Office commented that they saw the young people in a "different light now."

North Wales Police summed it all up by stating: "It's great to see everyone working together to solve the problem."

Cllr Andy Atkinson, lead member for youth services and anti poverty, said: "Working with young can people can be an absolute privilege and on this occasion everyone has responded in a positive way for the benefit of the wider community.

"Our Youth Justice Service team members are to be commended for their role in bringing everyone together in order to address an issue that was of great concern to all those affected."

Wrexham Youth Justice Service, added: "We would like to thank everyone who took part in getting around the table and engaging with this innovative project.

"We want to support communities to feel empowered so they can resolve their own issues."
