A TOWN science centre is to give itself a whole new name and brand, it has been revealed.

Techniquest Glyndwr (TQG) has confirmed that alongside the purchase of and re-location to the former unoccupied TJ Hughes building in the centre of Wrexham, it will also be re-branding the Science Discovery Centre - including a change of name.

The facility has come under the ‘Techniquest’ banner since Queen Elizabeth II opened the centre in 2003, initially as Techniquest@NEWI before changing to ‘Glyndwr’ in 2009.

The original Techniquest, based in Cardiff, has been partnered with the Wrexham based science centre.

But in 2020 that will decrease as the re-location to Henblas Square is complete.

It's re-branding is set to coincide with the move to the town centre and provide a fresh face to the community in Wrexham.

The successful funding and purchase of the town centre building has already been announced this summer and this news completes a trio of major announcements by TQG.

Scot Owen, centre manager, said: “This is yet more positive news for ourselves and offers us an opportunity to gain our own bespoke identity.

“This is the most exciting time in our 16 year history and to have the chance to cement our own ideas in regards to name, branding and all-round feel is a challenge we are thrilled to undertake.

“We now call on the local community to help us in deciding on these changes, as we look to consult with all backgrounds to create a Science Discovery Centre for all."

Feedback is now being taken via a public survey whilst focus groups have been set-up to engage with the public and take their thoughts on all aspects of the new centre.

The first of which takes place at Ty Pawb from 11am to 11:30am and 2pm to 2.30pm on Saturday (July 27), which focuses on the re-branding.

Members of the public can give their thoughts via the Techniquest Glyndwr survey, which can ve found by visiting:
