A COMMUNITY project has been 'overwhelmed' by the generosity after receiving a donation.

Members of Digging Deeside received a £100 donation from Keith and Pattie Roberts from Town and Country letting agency.

Project manager Sarah Way told the Leader: "Digging Deeside is overwhelmed at the generosity of Keith and Patty and town and country Deeside.

"We are going to use the money towards replacing all of our safety gloves which were completely ruined during the flooding about a month ago.

"This ensures all of our volunteers are kept safe while working on the plots.

"We've also got to watch out for glass and needles following recent anti-social behaviour too.

"There's things here for kids up to the age of 21 but then after that, there's nothing really."

Digging Deeside is a gardening project which stems from the social enterprise RainbowBiz.

RainbowBiz aims to promote equality and diversity by bringing everyone together through a range of activities.

Keith Roberts said: "I think its a really good cause and it's a shame they keep having vandalism problems. We heard about the issues on the news and we just wanted to do our bit to help."

Pattie Roberts added: "They do such good work and it's helping people moving forward with their lives, giving them a focus.

"We have been very lucky in life - we have been voted for Flintshire's golden award letting agents and we are going for our awards ceremony in October.

"With that, comes a responsibility as to how we care for other people who need support in the community.

"We are a family run business and all the people we employ are from this area and our contractors are from this area.

"We feel it's a bit like giving something back.

"We are ongoing in our support to local causes, it makes such a difference to people."

The Leader has previously reported several acts of vandalism around the Mill Lane Allotments in Connah's Quay, where the Digging Deeside group meets regularly.

Daz Cook, member and newly appointed director, said the donation means a lot to those involved in the group.

He said: "This incredible donation from Town and Country will mean that we can continue our projects to enhance nature, save endangered species, eradicate global warming and change lives."
