FAMILIES and visitors enjoyed a day of fun and games in Wrexham.

Caia Park Environmental Group held its annual open fun day at the Caia Park Partnership in Prince Charles Road on Saturday.

The day also marked the 20th anniversary of the environmental group's formation and was attended by Wrexham MP Ian Lucas, the town's mayor Rob Walsh and Gary Brown of the Caia Park Partnership.

To mark the occasion, Dave Subacchi read a poem, which was followed by two songs by Wrexham artist Jessica Fiddler.

Attendees also watched a performance by Delta Academy of Dance and Performing Arts, which concluded with the performers singing happy birthday to Caia park Environmental Group.

The environmental group was also presented with a £500 cheque by the People's Health Trust and Cllr Walsh.

Ian Lucas MP, Cllr Carrie Harper and Wrexham Council's estate manager for Caia park Jane Cotton judged work by children from Caia Park's three primary schools and there was also live music by three bands throughout the day - Factory Hens, Mandola Hangover and Ready Get Set.

There was also a dog show supported by Pets at Home and judged by Tim Lincoln of the company, as well as Jane Cotton - in addition to a community tug-of-war.

Dorothy Mitchell, chair of the environmental group, said: "I wish to thank everyone who helped to make the day a success and for all of their hard work - especially the Caia Park Partnership, Gary Brown, and all of the partnership team.

"I'd also like to give a special thanks to Factory Hens and all of the organisations and the people who came out to support the event and all of the helpers from Caia park Environmental Group."

The day - which also saw stalls set up by more than 30 organisations and groups - included a chainsaw demonstration by carver Simon O'Rourke, who brought his carved dragon Wenlock.

It concluded with a dancing performance by Noir from Theatr Clwyd.

Mr Lucas said: "The Caia Park Environmental Group's fun day was, as ever, a great success and it was an extra special occasion this year as the group is celebrating its 20th birthday.

"This was a free event for the local community to enjoy and there were some lovely performances on the day.

"It was a pleasure to be there and I'd like to place on record my thanks for all the wonderful work the Caia Park Environmental Group has carried out in Wrexham over the past 20 years."
