POLICE seized a stun gun concealed in the casing of a torch when they raided a Ponciau man’s home.

Officers were executing a warrant searching for drugs at Andrew Williams’ property in Australia Street when they came across the black torch with an unusual adaption in a bedroom, Mold Crown Court heard.

Its bulb had been replaced by two terminals and it had its own charging device.

Williams claimed he had bought it at the roadside after being stopped for riding his bike without a light.

But after hearing that after the death of his wife Williams was the sole carer of his 15-year-old daughter who had penned a heartfelt letter to the court the judge drew back from sending the defendant to prison.

Suspending his nine-month sentence for 18 months Judge Rowlands told Williams: “I am not going to separate you from your daughter. I have read her letter and it is very moving.”

Williams, 48, pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon on February 14 last year.

Defence barrister Henry Hills said Williams had been a heroin user all his adult life.

Judge Rowlands imposed a 10-week curfew on Williams and told him to undergo 30 rehabilitation activity days.

Williams also has to pay a £140 victim surcharge.
