Residents in a Wrexham street have complained about rats being seen on the highway caused by refuse bins being left and rubbish around the area.
Offa Community Council has decided to call in Wrexham Council’s environmental department to look into the problems in Gibson Street near Bellevue Park.
The residents wrote to the community council about the general state of the street and claimed refuse bins were sometimes not collected and left outside for children to scatter them around and that had led to rats being seen in the street.
Cllr Sarah Roberts wondered if the rats had come from the drains on the highway.
Cllr Joanna Kinch said it should not always be up to Wrexham Council to clear up the mess. She said landlords should state clearly in the tenancy agreement what tenants should and not do.
County Cllr Alun Jenkins said he understood that sometimes the authority’s refuse lorries were unable to turn due to parked vehicles on the street.
He successfully moved that it was clearly a matter for the environmental/health department.
