AN MP has expressed her delight after being made a patron of a country park trust in Wrexham.

Susan Elan Jones MP has been made a patron of Nant Mill Community Trust, which has responsibility for Nant Mill Country Park in Coedpoeth, an area named after the historic corn mill located at the site.

The park forms part of the Clywedog Trail which includes several other heritage sites in the Clywedog Valley. The recent introduction of car parking charges and the seasonal opening times for the site’s facilities following council cuts have been blamed by many for a drop in visitor numbers.

Susan Elan Jones MP said: "I was delighted to be asked to become a patron of the trust. We have already had a very useful and encouraging meeting with the fantastic volunteers at Nant Mill.

"I believe that the park has a huge amount of potential as a destination for visitors. It has a fascinating history which is well documented thanks to the efforts and dedication of volunteers.

"It was heartwarming to hear that people with links to the area from across the globe have been coming forward with stories, information and photographs.

"It would be great to see more tourists and schools use the site, but for that to happen we need to make sure that proper facilities are provided and maintained.

"I am confident that the Nant Mill Community Trust will turn around the fortunes of this wonderful park."
