A CARNIVAL will kick off a week-long festival in a town in Flintshire.

Thousands of people are expected to join in a week-long programme of festival celebrations in Flint, starting this Saturday.

Flint Festival is returning for 2019 and organisers are anticipating more people than ever to get involved after more than 3,000 people attended last year.

The grounds of Flint Castle will kick off the annual festivities with a family fun on Saturday July 5, featuring more than 60 stalls, re-enactments, dance and fitness performances, a tug-of-war competition, donkey rides and more. The fun day is a highlight in the town calendar.

The family fun day is also playing host to a number of emergency services, who will offer an exclusive sneak peak behind the scenes of police cars, fire engines and even a mock prison cell.

Day two of the festival will see Flint RNLI staging the annual dog show on Sunday with a series of competitions being held throughout the day to find Flint’s favourite four-legged friend. Registration for the event starts at 12pm, with the competition commencing from 1pm.

Ysgol Gwynedd will play host to Flint’s Got Talent on Monday July 8 at 7pm, with schools from across the town putting on a display of music and dance in a fantastic showcase of entertainment.

Friday July 12 will be a day filled with music, as residents gather for a grand afternoon tea and sing-a-long on Church Street with Rhian Jones from 2pm, before the annual Cymanfa Ganu at St John's with Bagillt URC at 7pm.

The music continues on Saturday July 13 with the Rock the Castle open air rock concert in the epic setting of the grounds of Flint Castle. Getting underway from 1.30pm, more than a dozen bands will be rocking out until late.

The week’s programme comes to a close on Sunday July 14, with the Mayor of Flint’s Civic Parade from Flint Town Hall.

A Flint Festival spokesperson said: “Last year’s events were a huge success and we are hoping to build on that this year with more people than ever expected to attend this excellent programme of events held throughout the town.

“There is something for everyone taking places throughout the week so don’t miss out.”
